Himba women applying paint
Himba women apply red ochre past to each other's hair in Omungunda, Namibia.
They are using a paint formula that is at least 100,000 years old. Ground red ochre is mixed with animal fat to create a paint. Himba women apply this paint to themselves every other day. Before the famines of the 1980s Himba men painted themselves as well.
